Decorating for fall is one of the highlights of my year, and it’s the same for many others. It’s the time to embrace the cooler weather and create an environment that is soothing to the soul. As a professional Feng Shui consultant, I can affirm that fall is one of the best times of year to implement Feng Shui into one’s life. This is because this new-year energy brings the motivation to start fresh and clear away clutter. The use of Feng Shui when decorating does not have to be challenging. Even a newbie to Feng Shui will easily be able to understand the colour symbolism of the fall colors, which pieces are Feng-Shui approved and how to perform 3 Feng Shui cures that can be done today. Let the autumn leaves fall!
Fall Colors Symbolism
To begin the journey of decorating with Feng Shui in mind, we must begin with understanding the symbolism of the colours most associated with this time of year. We will start with the iconic colour orange found in pumpkins and fall foliage. Orange symbolizes success and harvesting as we see the seeds that we planted in spring (metaphorically and literally) come into fruition. Using this colour in your house is great for celebrating your hard work and appreciating all that you have in your life. Next is the colour black, often associated with death, and although this time of year definitely embraces this key part of everyone’s life cycle, it also represents protection and banishing. Use this colour to energetically protect your home from those with bad intentions and to honor those who have passed on. Changing directions from the neutral color of the fall palette, is green. Now green is no-doubt associated with spring for its vibrant hues reminding us of the sprouting plants, but in fall it also represents grounding, wealth, and growth. Use this colour to attract new opportunities and promote present moment awareness. Finally, we have the striking colour red representing passion, lust, and swiftness. Use this show-stopping colour to increase passion in your relationship (perhaps to encourage your lover to plan some fall dates?), and to connect with your sensuality. Use these colours as you see fit and remember that the specific meaning of a colour is different to everyone. When it comes to energy, it’s all about intention so if you see one of the colours representing another thing, use it as desired. Either way, I know that your house will be beautifully decorating just in time for autumn!
Feng Shui Approved Décor Pieces
Every piece that you bring into your home should be well-loved and perfect for what you need. It should not be making your living space unnecessarily crowded, nor should it lack purpose. When incorporating Feng Shui into your decorating plan it is essential that you maintain balance throughout your home. This looks like ensuring décor is displayed equally throughout the home and each room, and having all of the elements of Feng Shui present. Here’s some ideas for you to try out that will show how easy it is to find the elements everywhere you look.
The element of metal has the energy of precision, clarity and focus. To enhance this energy, decorate a mirror with spooky touches or purchase a new one that you use exclusively for fall. Here is a rustic fall mirror that I love!
The element of earth is grounding, comfortable, and nurturing. This can easily be achieved by hanging a decorative wreath on your front porch. The extra bonus of this décor addition is that not only does it embrace fall and the earth element, but it also is great Feng Shui for your entryway! By making your entryway welcoming with special touches, you welcome a flow of energy into your home and new opportunities into your life.
The element of water is flowing, intuitive, and refreshing. Achieve a good flow within your life by switching out your typical dishware for a set with elegant, haunting touches.
The element of wood is creative, growing, and nourishing. Incorporate this element by placing real plants and flowers around your home. Keeping real plants (or fake ones with dirt sprinkled into their pots) increases lively energy in the home.
The element of fire represents action, enthusiasm and power. Enhance this element in your home by decorating with fall-coloured candles. If burning candles aren’t your thing but you enjoy the look of them, consider using led candles like these ones here.
3 Fall-Inspired Feng Shui Cures
Now onto the fun stuff! Here are 3 fall-inspired Feng Shui cures that you can perform right now to boost the energy of your home and welcome new opportunities.
1. Switch Out Summer Flowers For Fall Flowers
This goes for all seasonal décor! Living in tune with the seasons is not only aesthetically pleasing but it is also a good way to connect with the earth. By switching out your décor as the seasons change, you are welcoming their specific meaning and being in flow with the natural cycle of life. An easy cure to promote this energy of flow is to replace your summer centerpieces with fall ones. This is your chance to include seasonal goodies such as foliage, pinecones (representing regeneration and enlightenment) and acorns (representing fertility).
2. Balance Décor Throughout the House and In Each Room
I touched on this earlier but I wanted to emphasize this because it really makes a difference energetically! Creating balance in your home not only looks like incorporating the elements throughout, it also looks like having matching lamps on each nightstand in the bedroom, having an even number of candles on display, and using a colour palette that isn’t overwhelming.
3. Use Aromatherapy to Boost Energy
For many years I was an essential oil distributor for Young Living so I have learned quite few things about the benefits of using essential oils. In Feng Shui aromatherapy is used to remove non-beneficial energy, refresh the space, and energize the energy. There are so many blends out there that is perfect for fall but my favorite is below.
